Prague (Praha, Prag) is the capital, largest and one of the most beautiful cities in the Czech Republic. Prague is located on Vltava river and population of the city is about 1.3 million people.
The oldest part of Prague called the Old Town was first mentioned in 1091 and it gained priviliges in 13th century.
The name of this part dates back to the 14th century when the New Town was founded. The center of the Old Town has always been the Old Town Square dominated by the Church of Our Lady and the Town Hall. The Old Town Square is also one of the most favorite sightseeing places.
Another place which is definitely worth to see is Prague Castle. It is the most popular sightseeing place in Prague. It is the largest ancient castle in the world (570 m long, on average 128 m wide, area 7.28 hectares). The castle has three courtyards and it has always been the residency of Czech monarchs, kings and presidents as well as the official residence. It will definitely take at least half a day (it does not include time for museum visits) if you want to examine it in depth.
If you are planing on visiting Prague, we suggest spending at least two or three days here. You should also consider a trip outside of the city to enjoy a different part of the Czech Republic and see the countryside, villages and small Czech towns, old castles and towers.
